You’re about to sign in on Priority Matrix for Windows, and you’re greeted with a horrible black box like the one below. What can you do now?

Black box when signing in to Priority Matrix for Windows

Fret not – all you need to do is adjust your color settings, and you’ll be up and running in no time. In most cases, the following steps should do the trick:

  1. Right-click on your desktop and click Screen Resolution
  2. Click on Advanced Settings

  3. Under the Monitor tab, select True Color (32 bit) from the Colors drop-down menu
  4. Select Yes and you’re done!

What if I still see the black box?

The reason why you’re seeing this black box is typically a problem with your video card, or its driver. We have noticed at times that windows of a specific size run into this problem, but simply resizing the window sometimes does the trick. This also works if you’re seeing the black box not in the login popup window, but in the chat box in the main window itself. Try resizing the right side panel to something slightly wider or narrower, and see if that helps.

Anything else I can try?

If the steps above did not work, and you are stumped on what to do next, please ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do you use a remote desktop system? (Something that keeps your software running in one machine but you connect from another one)
  • Are you running Windows Server 2008 or 2012?

If you answer yes to the questions above, the likely problem is that the server/client rendering system is limiting the maximum color depth for remote sessions. That means that the computer running your software has one screen configuration, and your local computer (laptop or desktop) expects another configuration.

Luckily, the fix is quite simple. Your server administrator needs to follow these instructions by Microsoft to learn how to configure the maximum color depth for a remote system. In short, if you are using a remote desktop connection and it is set up with a 16-bit, please change it to 32-bit. Once you do that, you should be able to run Priority Matrix on your remote desktop without problems.
